Money and currency

Chile uses the Chilean Peso as only valid currency. It’s equivalence to the American Dollar, the Euro or others changes daily, so it is advisable to inform yourselves about its value before traveling. The entrance of more than $US10.000 in cash or its equivalent in any other currency, must be declared at customs. Major credit cards like MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted at restaurants, hotels, shops and petrol stations. Nevertheless, cash is needed to pay for some services like taxis.
